Today marks the 13th and final race of Fox Sports’ season. With that in mind, I thought I’d briefly take you through all the things that race fans everywhere are not going to miss about NASCAR on Fox, in preperation of our 6 relaxing weeks with TNT:
First, ol’ D.W. Personally, I like “Boogity! Boogity! Boogity!”. It’s the only thing that comes out of the gaping hole below that man’s nose that makes any sense. But most fans hate the phrase, if you wish to call it that. Darrell’s nicknames for his favorite drivers, such as “Junebug” and “Wild Thing”, drive any non-fans of said drivers crazy. And one [...]

One More Day
Last week, I gave a shout-out to Jimmie Johnson’s team for running their annual patriotic paint scheme at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Having done that, it would be ludicrous of me not to point out the 31 teams sporting the “Autism Speaks” puzzle piece logo on their cars and trucks this weekend at Dover.
Autism is a disease that many people do not understand. 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with Autism. And while it can put families on the breaking point, there is hope. Many children diagnosed with Autism have actually outgrown it, and have gone on to do great things. [...]
Rich Hendrick said for weeks that Tony Eury Jr. would not be replaced atop his cousin’s pit box. So it was only a matter of time before a change was made. That change happened this morning.
Eury will be replaced as the crew chief of NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. by 2003 Nationwide Series champion crew chief Lance McGrew. McGrew has been a successful crew chief in both the Nationwide Series, and the Sprint Cup Series, helping Brian Vickers win his first career Cup race at Talladega in 2006.
While McGrew should help things in the 88 camp, the change [...]

Can Logano Make The Chase?
During the course of every NASCAR season, there is always speculation as to who will make the Chase. Who will move up? Who will fall out? The answers to those questions often involve those drivers from around 6th-15th in the standings. But, with 14 races left until the Chase cutoff, I believe that a driver outside the top 20 may have a little something to say about this year’s group.
Joey Logano sits 25th in Sprint Cup points. That doesn’t sound impressive. That is, until you relize that just 4 races ago, Logano was 32nd, holding on to the top 35 for dear life. He [...]

For the past few years, there has been an open question as to whether or not NASCAR announcers show favoritism towards certain drivers and teams. NASCAR on Fox’s Darrell Waltrip has always expressed internal feelings for or against certain drivers. But, during Monday’s showing of the Coca-Cola 600, he showed more favoritism than usual.
During the telecast, the announcers revealed grades they had given to each team for their performance at this point in the season. At the top was, not suprisingly, Hendrick Motorsports with what I thought was a very generous A-. After all, while Hendrick may possess 2 of [...]
Let Silly Season Begin!
There comes a time in every NASCAR season where the media begins speculating about which race teams certain drivers will be driving for the next year, who their sponsors will be, or even if anything will be changing at all. Usually, as is the case again this year, the speculation revolves around drivers, teams, and sponsors who are in the final year of their contract.
This is called silly season. It begins at various points during the year, typically around the beginning of the so-called “summer stretch” that we are entering into now. So, naturally, the 2009 silly season has begun.
The greatest speculation [...]
Every year for Memorial Day, Jimmie Johnson and theaus #48 team run a special paint scheme for NASCAR’s longest race, the Coca-Cola 600. The car is always decorated in American flag colors, red, white, and blue, in honor of our veterans, and our troops overseas.
This year, however, they’re taking it to the next level. The #48 Lowe’s Chevrolet will be decorated in American flag colors, but blending in to the decals on the hood and decklid will be the names of U.S. war veterans who are also Lowe’s employees. The car will carry 12,548 names.
A special page has been set up at [...]
Between the annual Indianapolis 500 being less than 24 hours away, and Danica Patrick’s contract with her Indycar team, Andretti-Green Racing, expiring after the end of the season, rumors are once again swirling as to whether or not Patrick will indeed jump over to NASCAR in 2010.
My response: Gosh, I hope not.
Before I proceed, I would like to say that the reason I hope she does not join NASCAR has nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman. I was one of those who hoped Erin Crocker would make it in NASCAR, and I would have no [...]
Surprise, surprise. Kasey Kahne will be the lone driver out of the Richard Petty Motorsports camp using the newer, faster Dodge R6 engine, according to Scenedaily.com.
Kahne’s #9 Budweiser Dodge will run the R6 engine beginning at Dover on May 31st. Whether the R6 will be used in the following races remains to be seen, but one has to think that the team will indeed be using the R6 after Dover, as the circuit will head to a pair of tracks where Kahne finished 1st and 2nd respectively a year ago.
Kahne is most certainly excited about receiving the new engine. “When we [...]
