In today’s NASCAR, it is all about the “Big Four”(Hendrick, Roush, Chilldress, and Gibbs). These four teams have a proverbial stranglehold on the sport. When one of these teams is “caught cheating”(namely failing NASCAR inspection), it’s no big deal. If one of these teams attempts to gain a competitive edge illegally, and is, in NASCAR’s book, caught cheating, they may lose a few points, and the crew chiefs may get fined a few thousand dollars. No big deal, they’ll just gain it all back when they run in the top 5 the next week.
In the meantime, there are roughly 8 mediocre teams simply [...]

Small Teams Get Hit Hardest
For all you diehards out there who are sick of Speed TV’s so-so NASCAR coverage, relief is coming soon.
How soon is soon? It would appear, about 5 years.
According to Sports Business Journal, the NASCAR Media Group will be purchasing a new, $45,000,000 state-of-the-art home adjoining NASCAR’s Hall of Fame. NASCAR Media Group will be purchasing floors 2-5 of the 19-story building, which will include multiple studios and control rooms. Namely, everything NASCAR needs to start its own network.
So why would it take 5 years for there to finally be a NASCAR Network? NASCAR’s current media deals with television, radio, and internet [...]
When NASCAR introduced its random drug testing policy at the beginning of the season, it was met with great applause and support from many, including myself. But, as NASCAR’s first victim of the new policy, as well as his excuse, was revealed, the general public was met with, as usual in NASCAR, more questions than answers. Namely, who’s side on earth can we believe?
The whole ordeal between NASCAR and Jeremy Mayfield has turned into a he said/they said situation. Fans have been left wondering who to believe, or if we can believe anybody. But, if I must choose somebody to believe, [...]
As you all know, Saturday night marks the 25th annual NASCAR All Star Race. Obviously, just as they do every year, the media and fans alike are speculating as to who might win the big race. So we figured we would join in ourselves.
So who does Stock Car Spin believe will win the 25th annual All Star Race? I could tell you straight up, but that would be too easy. I’m going to make you work to find out who we believe will break the bank. Unless of course, you’d like to just glance down and look. But it would [...]
It’s All Star weekend in NASCAR. You know what that means? Twenty-some drivers racing their souls out, tempers flaring, big ugly wrecks, and a million dollars to the guy who gets through it all. You know what else All Star weekend means? The great debate over where the All Star race should be held is back on.
I don’t know whether the lack of printable stories at this time of the year gets to these media members’ minds, or what. But whatever the deal is, it seems like every year around this time, there is a great debate about whether the All [...]
Not very often will you see me writing about the NASCAR Nationwide Series or its drivers. There are two reasons for this. The first is that it is not overly popular andit often gets overlooked by readers. The second is the fact that, for the most part, it is merely the NASCAR stars’ personal playground. With all that said, NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Jason Leffler deserves credit, and lots of it.
Leffler is one of only a few competitive drivers in the series that does not race on Sundays. He’s tried his hand at that, andhe’s had a much better racing life competing [...]
In NASCAR, a good sponsor is a driver’s best friend. Heck, without a sponsor in today’s NASCAR, you can’t even race a full season. And if you take a good look at who’s at the top of the points standings, you will notice that each driver has a $10 million-$15 million sponsorship deal with companies like Lowes, Miller Lite, M&M’s, and Fed-Ex.
But, in some cases, a big sponsor can be a driver’s worst enemy.
Some of the biggest sponsors in NASCAR, UPS and Budweiser, for example, demand so much of the driver’s time that the driver really can’t take all the [...]
Inspired by the recent release of the new Star Trek movie, Fansided.com’s own Adam Best wrote a very interesting piece on, if sports athletes were Star Trek characters, which character they would be. After reading the article, I myself, was inspired to write my own article. Only this one is on NASCAR drivers, and which Star Trek character they would be. Hopefully, you find it enjoyable.
The cast for the upcoming movie, “Nascar Trek”, directed by Mike Helton:
Kyle Busch as Captain James T. Kirk: Like Kirk, Busch is egotistical to say the least. Also like Kirk, he has every right to be. [...]
It was announced just yesterday that Jeremy Mayfield became the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver to fail a random drug test. Mayfield was tested last weekend at Richmond, and faces indefinite suspension from NASCAR.
According to Mayfield, the reason he failed the test was because a prescription medication he was taking interacted wrongly with an over-the-counter medicine he was taking. With that said, Mayfield stated that he respects NASCAR’s judgement, but he will try to clear up the situation with them.
For Mayfield, this is just the latest chapter in a career that has gone downhill way too fast. Something many people forget [...]
As NASCAR fans well know, this weekend’s race at Darlington will be bearing a familiar name, the Southern 500. To many fans, this feels like an attempt by NASCAR to get back to its old roots. To me, it’s NASCAR’s half-hearted apology to the fans.
Despite its name, this race is not the Southern 500. Any true NASCAR fan knows that the real Southern 500 is run on Labor Day weekend(a date now held by Atlanta Motor Speedway), not Mother’s Day weekend. If NASCAR really wants to get back to its old roots, they need to move the date back to Labor [...]
