Michigan Wasn’t The Best Race Of 2009
Following an exciting finish of Sunday’s Lifelock 400 at Michigan, fans and media alike are declaring that Michigan held the best race of 2009 so far. I beg to differ. How quickly we forget about Talladega, a race which ended with a driver coming from 8th to 1st in one lap, only to go flying through the air and nearly knocking down the catch fence with a few hundred feet to go. Not to mention we had a first-time winner. Michigan had a pair of drivers run out of gas. But even if Michigan would’ve had the best finish of 2009, [...]
NASCAR’s Next Big Five?
ESPN.com reported today that NASCAR is in talks with several new foreign manufacturers, each of whom have plants here in the United States. With two of Detroit’s Big 3 filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and the other on its way, Toyota is the lone brand in NASCAR apparently immune from pulling any support from its teams. This has prompted NASCAR to talk to several new manufacturers, including Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, about coming to the sport. With that, I have compiled a list of cars that each company could use in NASCAR, and have selected the one I [...]
Underdogs Takes SCS Freeroll At Michigan
We only had 5 players, and we wish that we would have had more for Stock Car Spin Freeroll at Michigan. Because maybe, just maybe, somebody would have come close to challenging Underdogs. It was no contest. Underdogs whooped the field by over 100 points. Yours truly was a not-so-close 2nd. The standings ended up as follows: Pos Team Pts 1. Underdogs 379 2. Hopper 250 3. Fredrock 226 4. sid9367 217 5. VicMackey 157 Underdogs took home 75 tokens, while I took the other 25. As always, we’re looking for more people to get in on the action. Here’s how [...]
Stock Car Spin Fan Poll
This week, there has been plenty of discussion over the Bryan Berry suspension. Both sides have shown strong opinions. So, I decided to start up a fan poll about it. May your voice be heard!
Gaughan And Davis Family Grow Even Closer
Brendan Gaughan’s new best friend will be making his debut in the Sprint Cup series two weeks from now in Loudon. Brenden Gaughan’s new best friend, Marc Davis, will be attempting to make the June 28 race at New Hampshire. Davis will most likely be driving the #15 Pit Bull Energy Drink Toyota. The car was scheduled to debut one week earlier at Infineon. But if you ask Brendan Gaughan, he’ll probably tell you that Davis is still making his debut too soon. Speaking of our lovable duo, Marc’s father, Harry reportedly called Gaughan’s car owner Rusty Wallace on Friday to apologize. [...]
In the heat of the moment, we sometimes say things we shouldn’t. As was the case for Bryan Berry, crew chief of Brenden Gaughan’s #62 US Fidelis Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series on Saturday night. It all really began with the final cycle of pit stops which occurred inside 30 laps to go. Gaughan, running in the top 10, came down pit road behind the lap down car of 18-year old African American phenom Marc Davis. Gaughan’s pit box was just past the entrance to the garage area. An entrance in which, unbeknownst to Gaughan, Davis had all intentions [...]
Carl Edwards Is A Class Act
There are some drivers who have not hesitated to take a shot at Carl Edwards. Despite the fact that he is one of NASCAR’s best drivers, over the past year-and-a-half, Edwards has had shots taken at him by several drivers, including Elliott Sadler and Matt Kenseth. Wednesday, he had an opportunity to take a shot of his own at another racer, Jeremy Mayfield. He didn’t do it. During a national media teleconference on Wednesday, Edwards fielded a question regarding Mayfield’s positive drug test. But instead of playing kiss-up to NASCAR, Edwards put the questioner on the defensive. “Is it certain [...]
Danica Appearently Isn’t Coming To NASCAR… Yet
NASCAR and Indycar team owner Chip Ganassi is reportedly working on a deal that would place Indycar diva Danica Patrick in a 3rd Target Indycar for Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2010 season. The move would delay Patrick coming to NASCAR, which, in my opinion, is good for everybody. But signing with an owner like Ganassi most likely means that her time in NASCAR is coming. Ganassi has been known to take drivers from open-wheel racing, such as Formula 1 and Indycar, and placing them in NASCAR. He has done that with several drivers, including Juan Pablo Montoya and Dario Franchitti. Unfortunately, [...]
“Drug Wars” Get More Complicated
You would think that an answer would make things clearer. In the case of the NASCAR Drug Wars, it only makes things more complicated. NASCAR, after a full month of silence, has finally revealed which drug Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for: Methamphetamine What’s so complicated about that? Mayfield admitted a month ago that his over-the-counter Claratin D, which contains pseudoephedrine, a drug used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, combined with a prescription drug resulted in a positive drug test. While both sides continue to point fingers at one another, is it plausible that both are right? Sure, there is no [...]
Petty, Braun Form Partnership
A switch from Dodge to Toyota has long been in the cards for Richard Petty Motorsports. But an announcement today may have brought the deal even closer. It was announced today that Richard Petty Motorsports and Nationwide Series team, Braun Racing, have teamed up to form a partnership, which will allow RPM to field the #9 car in 5 Nationwide Series events. What’s unusual about this? RPM fields Dodges; Braun fields Toyotas. The manufacturer of the #9 car has yet to be determined. But if the car RPM will be fielding is a Dodge, then why not partner up with a [...]
