10 Possible Replacement Sponsors For Lowe’s Motor Speedway

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: None Yet

By now, I’m sure you have all heard the news. Lowe’s, the home improvement chain and 11-year sponsor of Lowe’s Motor Speedway, does not appear to be interested in extending its contract with the Charlotte race track.
The track, as of now, is expected to revert back to its old name, Charlotte Motor Speedway. That is, unless of course they can find a new sponsor to replace Lowe’s.
So, I decided to do the track a favor and begin searching for new replacements for the home improvement chain. Here is a list of 10 potential heir apparents(Note: This list is designed for [...]

Truck Driver Carmichael Shows Up in Step Up; Gold Medals at X-Games

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here at Stock Car Spin, I typically only report on 4-wheel vehicles. In fact, I’ve never reported on any other type of vehicle besides those with 4 wheels. Until tonight, when a 2-wheel sport involved a NASCAR stand-out.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Ricky Carmichael hails from motocross. So it was no surprise to see him tearing it up at the X-Games tonight in Los Angeles.
Carmichael was competing in the Step-Up challenge, a motocross version of the human pole-vault, only with a motorcycle instead of a pole. Carmichael, riding his trademark Monster Energy Drink #4, stood out in a star-studded field [...]

More Jeremy Mayfield Junk

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

On Wednesday, the case between NASCAR vs. Jeremy Mayfield took another turn when the trial date was announced.
It’s going to be a long year.
September 13, 2010 is when the trial date is set for, and there’s always a possibility of postponement. With that, we can expect more of the dirt flying back and forth between the two parties over the next year, just like we’ve seen in the past 3 months.
You can’t help but wonder why it’s going to be a whole year before this trial starts, when a Kansas man who alledgedly shot and killed somebody got his trial [...]

NASCAR Conspiracy Theorists: Johnson, Crew “Cooking” With PAM

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Over the past few days, NASCAR’s conspiracy theorists have come up with off-the-wall reasons why NASCAR may have “fixed” the race in favor of Jimmie Johnson. Everything from “NASCAR is racist” to “NASCAR wanted their Hendrick boy in Victory Lane” has grazed message boards everywhere.
And I know what you’re thinking to yourself, “Over the past 3 years, I’ve heard it all.”
Oh, you may think you’ve heard it all, but you haven’t… yet.
Following Sunday’s Brickyard 400, I began surfing around NASCAR’s biggest websites to see what people were saying about it. I went to one board that had a thread which [...]

Crown Royal to Kenseth; McMurray Out at Roush-Fenway

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was announced today that Crown Royal, sponsor of Jamie McMurray’s #26 Ford for 4 seasons, will be making an in-house move over to Matt Kenseth’s #17 Ford for the 2010 season.
Crown Royal will replace DeWalt Power Tools as Kenseth’s primary sponsor. The trademark purple and yellow will graze Kenseth’s Fusion for 18 of next year’s 36 races, with other sponsors yet to be determined.
With Kenseth’s sponsorship being secured, the long anticipated announcement of who the odd-man out will be at Roush-Fenway came today as well.
From Roush-Fenway Racing President Geoff Smith:
“With the conclusion of the contract arrangement with Crown Royal, [...]

Montoya’s Rant Unfairly Exploited By The Media

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

When Juan Pablo Montoya allegedly sped on pit road with 35 laps remaining in Sunday’s Brickyard 400, he was undoubtedly upset.
He had every reason to be. He knew he had just missed out on his best chance of winning the biggest stock car race of his life. And the viewers at home were treated to the biggest excitement of the day.
“It was a wild rant even by racing standards,” said Dan Wetzel of Yahoo.com.
A rant that was never meant to be heard.
When Montoya threatened to “Kill NASCAR” and swore on his wife and children that he did not speed, the [...]

Montoya, NASCAR, or the Pace Car Driver: Who’s At Fault For The Brickyard 400 “Montoya Debacle”?

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: Fan Poll, NASCAR | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

A year ago, there was a great debacle in one of NASCAR’s biggest races. Who was at fault for the debacle is still being debated even today.
The case then was that there were 4 parties which may have been at fault. There was Goodyear, which failed to bring a race-able tire to the track. There were the teams, who failed to properly prepare their cars for the situation, even in practice when they watched it all unfold. There was the track surface, which ground the tires into a mere powder.
And then…
…there was NASCAR, who handled the situation about as poorly [...]

McMurray Appears To Be Out At Roush-Fenway After ‘09

AUTHOR: Ben Montedonico | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the people of NASCAR Nation wait anxiously to hear who the odd-man out at Roush-Fenway Racing will be after this season, it appears that it has already been decided.
Two of Roush-Fenway Racing’s drivers have signed contracts stating that they will be at Roush-Fenway through 2011. Those drivers being Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle. Matt Kenseth, despite losing primary sponsor, DeWalt Power Tools after the 2009 season, is likely to stay at Roush-Fenway also, with a contract that is good through 2010.
That leaves just 2 drivers, David Ragan and Jamie McMurray.
McMurray has appeared to be the odd-man out for a [...]
