A Different Kind Of NASCAR Racing

It’s amazing how much people love our sport.

The racers who participate in the Nuff Racing League have heard it all.

 They have been made fun of, called countless names, and have probably heard on occasion that they need to get a life.

 They don’t mind all that. But never, ever tell them that they don’t race for real.

 The NRL is an online video game league for NASCAR ’09 on the Xbox 360. The racers in this league do not think they are NASCAR drivers. Rather, they enjoy their sport with such a passion, that they wish to do what they see their idols doing, without spending a fortune on cars, trailers, travel, and maintenance, or even leaving the house.

 But don’t call these guys lazy.

 If you think NASCAR teams have a rigorous schedule, just wait until you see Nuff’s. 38 Sprint Cup Series events, most of which are raced on Saturday nights, 35 Nationwide Series events, and 25 Camping World Truck Series events are raced each year. Those series both run on Wednesday nights. And sometimes, these guys even run Nationwide-Truck doubleheaders on Wednesday nights.

 All of these races are run in their entirety, running 100% of that weekend’s race’s scheduled distance, from 300 miles at Loudon, to 500 laps at Bristol. The tires wear out, as does fuel. And, while on a video game mechanical issues don’t occur, disconnections take their place.

 But wait, there’s more!

 The NRL runs a special 36-race VIP CoT series, in which only the best Nuffers get to race. That series also runs 100% races, but with no custom setups. To see what I mean, just keep reading.

 When these Nuffers aren’t racing, they are testing vigorously, trying to find that slight competitive edge in the very competitive league. Nuffers work all week, or even for multiple weeks, trying to customize a setup to their liking for all 3 series. And in the VIP CoT series, Nuffers test to try to find that good driving line, in an attempt to, yes, gain a competitive advantage.

 Either that, or they are off racing in the NRL’s sister leagues, the National Racing League, which runs its races on Friday nights, and the brand new ERL, which runs its races on Monday nights.

 With all this work, Nuffers must get something for winning, right? You bet! Every race, the top 3 finishers earn Xbox Microsoft points, which can be used to purchase awesome new Xbox Live Features. And at the end of the season, Nuffers are awarded large sums of Microsoft points, and the top 3 points finishers earn trophies.

 To be in the Nuff racing league, you do not have to participate in every race. In fact, it is more fun if you aren’t racing for the points championship. And, speaking from experience, these Nuffers are some of the nicest guys you will ever come across, at least, in the virtual world. I would highly recommend joining.

 Just try not to get in their way.
