NASCAR Conspiracy Theorists: Johnson, Crew “Cooking” With PAM

AUTHOR: | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: 1 Comment |

Over the past few days, NASCAR’s conspiracy theorists have come up with off-the-wall reasons why NASCAR may have “fixed” the race in favor of Jimmie Johnson. Everything from “NASCAR is racist” to “NASCAR wanted their Hendrick boy in Victory Lane” has grazed message boards everywhere.

And I know what you’re thinking to yourself, “Over the past 3 years, I’ve heard it all.”

Oh, you may think you’ve heard it all, but you haven’t… yet.

Following Sunday’s Brickyard 400, I began surfing around NASCAR’s biggest websites to see what people were saying about it. I went to one board that had a thread which read, “Jimmie Johnson Cheated!!!” Intrigued, I took a look at what this person had to say, and it didn’t make a whole lot of sense. So I read farther, and this is what I found:

From the Yahoo! Fantasy NASCAR Message Boards:

Yea, glad I taped it [the race] on HD. You have to look close, but when I thought they were cooking on Pit Road it wasn’t cooking they were doing. I got suspicious and took a second look at a couple of shots . [They were] spraying the underside of the splitter with PAM cooking spray. I’ll bet NASCAR never thought to check for anything so innocent as that. Can you imagine the advantage he got with reduced drag when the splitter made contact with the track???
I gotta tell ya, the ingenuity that these guys are coming up with every week is impressive and disappointing at the same time. I don’t know what the [heck] to think!!!! But I had the wife come in and look at my replays, sure enough….PAM!!!!! That ain’t right!

A few others claimed they had tape of the race as well, and said that, they too witnessed the crew using the spray on the splitter.

However, even after being asked by another member three times for the video proof, nobody had anything to offer up.

Personally, I did not witness this myself. The above conspiracy theory is just that; A theory. One that was not put together by myself, but rather other fans who claimed to have video footage of it all happening, but could not provide it.

However, that does not mean it didn’t happen. There was no footage of Johnson’s second, or final pit stop during the re-run of the race, as well as on the internet. There is also no place where it says that such a thing is illegal, at least, as far as I know. NASCAR’s rule book is not accessible to the fans. But if it is illegal, it may be something for NASCAR to watch out for in the future.

And if it isn’t illegal, perhaps it is something the other teams should take a look at doing.

The above conspiracy theory was not put together by the writer, as evidenced by the above link. This article is also not being used as a sponsor plug for PAM cooking spray.
