And the result of Jeremy Mayfield’s independent drug test comes back… …Clean. Mayfield was tested twice within the same hour on July 6 for methamphetamine; Once by NASCAR, and once by an independent tester, LabCorp. NASCAR claimed that its test came back positive. When the results became public, Mayfield guaranteed that the independent test would show a different result. He wasn’t lying. According to Mayfield’s attorney, John Buric, the results do not show Mayfield’s name; Only a number. However, according to Buric, “This number is referred to in the sample data packet that will show that it is Mr. Mayfield’s sample.” [...]

Apparently, Jeremy Mayfield is no longer a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver. According to NASCAR.com’s driver table, Jeremy Mayfield never even attempted a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in 2009. The driver table is made up of every driver who has attempted a race this season, and which car they drove. NASCAR is stopping at nothing to make sure Jeremy Mayfield doesn’t see the pavement of a race track. It was announced on Monday that NASCAR has filed an appeal of Judge Graham Mullen’s ruling to grant Mayfield an injunction, allowing him to race for the time being.
