AJ Allmendinger Arrested for DWI

AUTHOR: | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: None Yet

One day after word leaked out that AJ Allmendinger will drive the #43 Best Buy Ford full-time in the Sprint Cup Series in 2010, the Richard Petty Motorsports driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Allmendinger was pulled over at roughly 1:30 yesterday morning, and reportedly failed a field sobriety test. Sources also say that Allmendinger blew a .08 on a breathalyzer test. The limit in North Carolina is .08. Allmendinger had this to say: “I honestly felt fine, but I obviously should have erred more on the side of caution, particularly given what I do for a living,” Allmendinger [...]

Want to See NASCAR’s Rules? That’ll be $400

AUTHOR: | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

In sports, you often see judgment calls made by game officials according to the game’s rules. In NASCAR, it is no different. However, in other sports, fans have access to the rule books via the web, which allows them to educate themselves on the rules if they have a question about the way the game is played, a penalty, etc. In NASCAR, taking a peek at the rule book will cost you $400. Sure, NASCAR will let you see their points system, what their flags mean, and what different terms mean for free. That’s all fine and good for the new fans. [...]

Bob Greise Suspended For “Taco” Remark? Seriously?

AUTHOR: | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Hey NASCAR fans, did you know that under ESPN’s company policy, it is illegal to suggest that Colombians like Mexican food? Now you do. According to reports from ESPN, Bob Griese has been suspended from his college football announcing duties for one week. Griese, if you haven’t gathered by now, works for ESPN. Griese was suspended for making the following comment during Saturday’s Ohio State/Minnesota game. An advertisement was run for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Martinsville. The network showed the top 5 drivers in points on the bottom of the screen. Griese’s fellow analyst asked, “Where is [Juan Pablo] Montoya?” Griese’s response: [...]

Mayfield’s OTL Interview: What We Learned

AUTHOR: | IN: NASCAR | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

If you slept in on this Sunday morning, you likely missed Jeremy Mayfield’s first 1-on-1 interview since testing positive for methamphetomines back in May. If you missed the interview on ESPN’s Outside The Lines, you didn’t miss much. Mayfield basically told reporter Steve Delsohn that he did not ever use meth, and that he doesn’t even know what it looks like. He also said, once again, that he believes he was targeted and used as an example. However, we did learn a few things, beginning with: -NASCAR has no case against Mayfield. At least, not one they wanted to defend too [...]
