How’s this for a busy day? After virtually no Silly Season action in weeks, two big announcements have been made in the last 24 hours regarding to of NASCAR’s big names. The first is Jamie McMurray, who has partnered up with his old team… sort of. McMurray has inked a one-year deal with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing to drive the team’s #1 Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet. It had been rumored that Bass Pro Shops did not want to sponsor McMurray because “he isn’t much of an outdoorsman”. NASCAR just got a new best sponsor. Godspeaks.com and CJM Racing are teaming up with driver Denny Hamlin for Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Who says lightning can’t strike twice? Oh yeah, Jimmie Johnson: “I don’t believe lightning can strike twice.” But of all people, should Jimmie Johnson really be the one to mutter those words? Johnson may have forgotten that, in 2004, lightning did strike twice for the then-third-year driver. The general consensus seems to be that Jimmie Johnson is going to win the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title. But there is still one more race to be run. And unless the powers-that-be already have the Homestead script written up(and some will argue that they do), this deal isn’t done yet. Can lightning strike twice? Not if you ask current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader Jimmie Johnson. During the 10:00 A.M. (EST) telecast of Sportscenter on ESPN, a segment on today’s race at Phoenix International Raceway was run. During the segment, a video from yesterday of Johnson doing a press conference was shown. During the conference, Johnson was taking questions on the championship, and about his misfortunes from last week at Texas. A little late… Ron Hornaday clinched the 2009 Camping World Trucks Series title on Friday night by finishing 4th in the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway. Ironically, his fourth place finish earned Hornaday his 4th career Truck title. He joins an elite group of drivers (Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, and Richard Petty) as the only drivers to ever win four titles in one of NASCAR’s premier divisions. Congratulations to Ron Hornaday on his remarkable accomplishment!

By now, there is no secret about who fans will be blaming if Jimmie Johnson ends up falling short of winning a record-breaking fourth-consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title. The blame, regardless of how many points Johnson were to lose by, in most peoples’ eyes, would fall squarely on the shoulders of David Reutimann and Sam Hornish Jr. Rightfully, or otherwise.
