Speedway Presidents “Gamble” on Texas-Alabama National Championship Game

Bet on it.

Millions of people from all over the world have at least some kind of a wager riding on Thursday’s BCS National Championship Game between the Texas Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Add to that list Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage, and Talladega Superspeedway president Rick Humphrey.

The two multi-millionaires have placed their bets. However, the wager between the two is less than impressive.

The loser has to display the winning track’s flag at their speedway for the weekend, and they have to sport a golf shirt and hat of the winning team as they hang it up. The flag will be left up for the weekend.

This weekend.

Remind me again what time of the year it is? January, right? Seriously, what kind of a bet is this? We have two very rich, very powerful NASCAR speedway presidents, and this is the best bet they can come up with?

C’mon, at least have the losing speedway display the winning speedway’s flag on a race weekend, and not on the second weekend in January when literally nobody cares.

Or how about this: Better yet, the loser has to give the command to start engines at his track, wearing a shirt bearing the winning team’s colors, complete with that team’s logo and the winning speedway’s logo. And after they do that, they have to pace the field around in the winning speedway’s pace car.

Now that’s a bet!

Oh yeah, one more thing about the real bet. You know, the sissy one: Pride is also at stake.

No offense, but I think pride kind of went out the window when the bet was announced.

Sorry guys. But seriously, with all your money and power, is this really the best you can come up with?
