Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there! Hope you had an awesome day, and I hope you enjoyed this weekend’s action at Darlington! This Hot or Not is for you, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!
Hot: Joe Gibbs Racing. Denny Hamlin said it best: “All we do is win!” Joe Gibbs Racing has won 4 out of the 6 races run with the new spoiler, while Hendrick Motorsports hasn’t won any. Is it time for Gibbs to usurp the title of NASCAR’s best team from Hendrick?
Not: Jimmie Johnson. He’s crashed out of and failed to finish two of the last three races. Saturday night, he was an innocent victim of bizarre circumstances. Yes, I am talking about Jimmie Johnson. No, you are not dreaming.
Hot: Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. Juan Montoya has finished in the top 10 in each of the last three races, and Jamie McMurray has finished second in two of the last three races. Suddenly, it looks like EGR is the second-best team in NASCAR, behind the aforementioned Joe Gibbs Racing.
Not: AJ Allmendinger. The bad news for AJ is that his break failure dropped him six spots in the standings to 27th. The good news is that what he did after his breaks failed temporarily made him NASCAR’s second-most popular driver, and made him an immediate contender for the Sprint All Star Fan Vote.
Hot: Kurt Busch. You’d think the elder Busch was driving a Prius. He’s been so quiet the last few races that hardly anybody knows he exists. But Kurt has finished in the top 10 in 3 of the last 4 races, and has his Dodge sitting eighth in the standings.
Not: Clint Bowyer. Speaking of Prius’, Clint Bowyer had breaks go bad on him twice Saturday night. Actually, his Chevy Impala had two bad break lines. Either way, Clint still fell out of the top 12 in points this week.
Hot: Brian Vickers. Boy, did this guy need a good run. Vickers was solid all night long in Darlington. So solid, in fact, he didn’t fall out of the top 10 at all during the race. Brian probably wishes every day could be Mother’s Day. Well he, and a few million other people.
Not: Ford. Wins by a Ford in NASCAR’s top 3 series this year: Mike Ford(Denny Hamlin’s crew chief): 3; Ford(the car manufacturer): 0.
Hot: David Reutimann. Reuti is finally starting to get a little bit of luck. His last three finishes have been 14th, 12th, and 11th respectively, and he’s moved from 30th to 24th in points during that span.
Not: Bobby Labonte. I usually try not to pick on the low-budget teams. But Labonte was involved in four separate incidents Saturday night, and most of them were of his own making. Sorry Bobby.
