Brian Vickers will not race in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star race.
Casey Mears will step back into the #83 Red Bull Toyota for Saturday’s race, in favor of Vickers, who was hospitalized last week for chest pains, which turned out to be blood clots. Vickers was released from the hospital last Friday, but will not run on Saturday.
Vickers earned the #83 team a guaranteed spot in the All-Star race with his win last August in Michigan, but usually NASCAR does not allow the car to compete in the All-Star race if the winning driver isn’t driving for them.
Fortunately for Team Red Bull, NASCAR has worked with them on this issue, and Casey Mears will pilot the #83 in the All-Star race. Mears will not have to race his way in through the Sprint Showdown.
We continue to wish Brian the very best in his recovery.
