Darrell Waltrip’s Hypocritical Move
Anybody who follows this blog on a regular basis knows I have the utmost respect for Darrell Waltrip, both as a person and as a NASCAR personality. The guy is second-to-none when it comes to showing generosity towards fans, and he’s forgotten more about NASCAR than I can probably ever wish to know. One of Waltrip’s unique characteristics is his firey personality. It’s a wonderful trait of his that many fans adore. Unfortunately, sometimes I think it causes him to say things before his brain knows what his mouth is doing. In a recent article of Waltrip’s, entitled “Cheap shot”, The [...]
1-On-1 With Mansfield ARCA Winner Max Gresham
Max Gresham is one of stock car racing’s most talented up-and-coming drivers. And fresh off his first ARCA win, which came on Saturday at Mansfield, Ohio, the future NASCAR superstar was courteous enough to let me interview him on his big win: Ben: For starters, congrats on your first ARCA win. Now that you’ve had a little time to let it sink in, are your emotions still running high? Max Gresham: Yeah, the emotions are still running at full speed. It’s a big deal for myself and my team to get our first ARCA win of the season. Ben: After [...]
Poll: Pick A Side, NASCAR Fans
Whatever happens, it seems that NASCAR can’t get things right. I’ve never had any sympathy for them, however, until now. During the offseason, NASCAR listened to the demands of the fans, loosened the reins on the drivers, and told them to “have at it, boys.” Since the start of the season, we have seen less of the corporate parades that had littered the sport during the last few years, and an increase in crashes. The latter part, the fans don’t care for very much. Perhaps it’s because some drivers go a little farther with the “have at it, boys” mentality [...]
Bob Keselowski: (Carl Edwards) Ain’t Gonna Kill My Boy
Bob Keselowski is ready to get the old racing uniform back out. Following a thrilling finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Gateway, that had Carl Edwards wrecking Brad Keselowski for the win, the ex-race car driver has had enough of Carl Edwards. “I’ll get my own (darn) uniform back out because this is ridiculous,” said Keselowski. “He ain’t gonna kill my boy.” But while Bob is frustrated with Carl, perhaps the first person he should talk to is Brad. On the final lap, Keselowski dove to the inside of Edwards going into turn 1, washed up the track, [...]
What Goes Into Wrapping A Race Car?
You saw Joey Logano almost win Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race driving the Lego Harry Potter car. What you probably don’t know is that his color scheme actually wasn’t a paint job, but rather a wrapping. You see, most teams choose to wrap the car rather than paint it to save time and money. But what went into wrapping the #20 car? Take a look: Fascinating, isn’t it?
F1 Beats NASCAR To The Gaming Punch, But…
NASCAR fans, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that our rivals from Formula 1 have beat us to the video gaming punch, teaming with with Codemasters to create what looks to be a freaking awesome game. (Players still can’t rub fenders with other cars.) Now comes the good news. Don’t get too excited just yet, but there is a rumor flying around that NASCAR is trying to get a deal going with Codemasters that could give the fans a NASCAR game by late 2010 or early 2011. For the record, Codemasters is the [...]
Saturday night was the most nervous I’ve been watching the end of a NASCAR race in a very long time. The end of the race wasn’t exciting. No, quite the opposite. The race ended with one driver putting a spanking on the rest of the field. It wasn’t like the end of a Talladega race, where you never know who might win, even with 100 yards to go. But how I felt during the end of Saturday night’s race didn’t hold a candle to how I felt during any race I’ve ever seen at Talladega, or almost anywhere for that matter. [...]
Almost a week after “Baby J” was born, the Johnsons finally decided on a name for their baby girl. It’s not a big deal. I’m sure there is a reason why a man and his wife, who spend most of their time in the public eye, are so indecisive that they couldn’t come up with a name for their child even after 9 months. That’s why I got together with some of the biggest race fans in the world, including the boys from the Nuff Racing League, to compile a list. Here are the top 10 possible reasons that 4-time Sprint [...]
R.I.P. Mark Niver
NHRA Top Alcohal Dragster driver Mark Niver was killed Sunday during a run at Pacific Raceway in Seattle, Washington. Niver was killed after a parachute malfunction occurred with his race car. When he pulled the chute, the chute ripped, and the car never slowed down. It is believed that Niver was killed on impact. As a race fan, and as a person, you always hate to see this. When somebody gets killed during a sporting event, it just feels wrong. These guys are doing what they love, just like so many other athletes. Unfortunately, sometimes they get ripped from us too [...]
Hot or Not: Chicago
The boys of NASCAR were in the Windy City this weekend, as they took to the track in Chicagoland. Who blew through the field and who got blown away? We’ve got you covered! Hot: David Reutimann. Reuti! Reuti! Reuti! David Reutimann finally got a win Saturday night that nobody can take away from him; he earned it. And after seeing the emotion of Reuti and the whole #00 team after the race, there’s no doubt in my mind that this is the feel-good story of the year. Way to go, boys! Not: Jimmie Johnson. J.J. wasn’t meant to win Saturday [...]
