Driver Speak: Fontana
Latemodel driver Chris Siebert and K&N East driver Max Gresham are back again to discuss the week’s biggest stories in NASCAR. Also joining us this week is Camping World Truck Series driver TJ Bell, as he leads us off by discussing the Chase’s newest title contender: Ben: Alrighty boys, let’s get started. First question: With Tony Stewart’s win at Fontana on Sunday, is he back in title contention? T.J.: Yes he is but he is gonna need Jimmie J. to have a bad race. They are both good at Charlotte, but Tony is racing for wins and Jimmie is points racing, so it [...]
Mobil 1 Signs With Tony Stewart
Mobil 1, the Official Motor Oil of NASCAR, has left one ex-Indycar driver for another. The company signed a multi-year deal with Tony Stewart on Tuesday, and will be on board Stewart’s #14 Chevrolet as a primary sponsor in 11 races. Mobil 1 will be an associate sponsor on Stewart’s car for the remaining 25 races, as well as the two non-points races. With the signing of Mobil 1, along with current sponsors Office Depot and Burger King, Stewart now has full sponsorship for the 2011 season. Stewart previously had several races planned in 2011 with potential sponsorship vacancies, with [...]
Hot or Not: Fontana
The boys of NASCAR went out West for Chase race #4 this week. Who survived the madness of Fontana and whose Chase hopes went up in smoke? We’ve got you covered! Hot: Tony Stewart. Blown engines were a big story at Fontana, but it was a different Smoke that stole the headlines. With his win on Sunday, Stewart revived his Chase hopes. Now can he catch J.J.? Not: Roush-Fenway Racing. What went right for the Roush cars at Fontana? Absolutely nothing. All three RFR Chasers had mechanical problems, and the lone non-Chaser for Roush made a new best friend…or not. [...]
Kyle Busch is leading Brad Keselowski and the rest of the NASCAR field by a wide margin in the Stock Car Spin Least Popular Driver poll, but there’s still plenty of time to vote! You have until after the NASCAR Awards Ceremony to vote on who you believe should earn the honors of NASCAR’s least popular driver. You can vote for as many drivers as you want, as many times as you want! So what are you waiting for? Vote now!
Brian Vickers Wins Spirit Award
I guess we could call this a “moral victory”. NASCAR driver Brian Vickers, who was sidelined in May for blood clots and was told he could not race for the rest of the season, has won the 3rd-Quarter NMPA Speedway Motorsports Spirit Award. The Spirit Award is given to the person in NASCAR racing who shows “character and achievement in the face of adversity”. Since being sidelined in May, Vickers has spent most of his time doing work with charities of all kinds, and has worked as both a mentor to his replacement drivers as well as an analyst for ESPN on [...]
Driver Speak: Kansas
Latemodel driver Chris Siebert and K&N East Series driver Max Gresham are back this week for another edition of Driver Speak. Here’s what the boys had to say about this week’s big stories in NASCAR: Ben: Alrighty boys, let’s get started! First question: After what we saw at Kansas on Sunday, do you think that track is deserving of that second date next year? Siebert: Yeah I think so, but not in the Chase or anything. Just one at the start of the year then later in the year. It was a good race and was hard-fought so I think it deserves it. [...]
David Reutimann Should Not Have Hit Kyle Busch
Vengeance is sweet, and sometimes necessary. When Brad Keselowski wouldn’t quit messing with Carl Edwards, Edwards took him out. It can be argued that since then, Keselowski has raced very differently. In that case, vengeance was warranted. In the case of Kyle Busch and David Reutimann, it wasn’t. Let me bring you up to speed on what happened between the two drivers Sunday at Kansas. Busch and Reutimann were running nose-to-tail going into Turn 1 early in the race. Reutimann’s car got a little bit loose, and he checked up. Busch didn’t, and ran into the back of Reutimann’s car, [...]
Hot or Not: Kansas
The boys of NASCAR were in the Land of Oz this week for Chase race #3. Who found the Yellow Brick Road to Victory Lane, and who melted under pressure? We’ve got you covered! Hot: Roush-Fenway Racing. I was down on this team(besides Carl Edwards) last week. But Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, and yes, even David Ragan all had solid days. Biff left Kansas with his second win at the track in four years, and this one came without controversy. Life is good for the Cat in the Hat. Not: Joe Gibbs Racing: On the other side of the spectrum, [...]
