Looks Like Hendrick Crew Chief Swap Is A Good Thing
Hello Stock Car Spin! I wanted to let you guys know that i am going to be contributing to the blog acouple times a week. You can read more info about me in the About Us page. Anyways, it was great to see Jeff Gordon win for a change. Gordon held off Kyle Busch to win the Subway Fresh Fit 500, as well as keep Kyle Busch from achieving history (Kyle won both the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series race at Phoenix).
Stock Car Spin NASCAR Power Rankings: Phoenix
The boys of NASCAR were in the desert this weekend. Some guys(well, one to be exact) got their thirst for victory quenched while others continued on a long, dry spell. Our biggest movers this week are AJ Allmendinger and Phoenix winner Jeff Gordon, each up seven spots. The big loser was Regan Smith, down eight spots after an early accident. New to the rankings this week are Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne. They enter at the expense of Greg Biffle and last week’s winner Trevor Bayne. Bayne falling out of the rankings has nothing to do with his driving ability [...]

If you’ve followed any of this weekend’s race coverage at Phoenix, you’ve probably heard that changes are in store for 1-mile oval. Starting after Sunday’s race, track crews are going to go to work reconfiguring the Arizona track that NASCAR has raced at since 1988. The changes will include a minor tweak to the banking in the corners, as well as a major adjustment to the backstretch dogleg. Progressive banking will be added to the turns. Turns 1 and 2, which currently have 11 degrees of banking, will have 10 degrees on the bottom and 11 degrees on the top. Turns [...]
Driver Speak: Daytona
As we ring in the new season, our boys are back to discuss the big topics in NASCAR. Latemodel driver Chris Siebert and K&N East Series racer and Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Max Gresham are back this season for another year of Driver Speak. They dished on this week’s major topics from Daytona: Ben: Alright guys, the 500 is in the books so let’s get started. First of all, what are your thoughts on Trevor Bayne winning the Daytona 500? Siebert: The kid is talented, he didn’t just get lucky today. He was there all race and when it mattered. He’s [...]
I’ll be honest, I was one of the few who truly felt that Trevor Bayne should make a run at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title. Sure, after his win in the Daytona 500, Bayne still had no driver points and sat about 40th in the standings. But being only 42 points behind, having that win in his back pocket, and showing that he really can run with the big boys had me convinced that Bayne was not only ready for Cup competition; he was ready to contend for a Chase spot. Let’s face it, the guy just won the [...]
Hidden Rule In NASCAR’s Points System
It has been well-documented already that NASCAR has made several tweaks to its points system. Among these changes is the tweak in the Chase criteria, which allows the top 10 drivers in the standings after 26 races, as well as two “wild card” drivers, to advance into NASCAR’s version of the playoffs. The “wild card” positions, it was announced, would allow the two drivers outside the top 10 in the standings with the most victories in the first 26 races to advance into the Chase. What was not mentioned at the time of the announcement was the hidden conditions under which a driver is [...]
Stock Car Spin NASCAR Power Rankings: Daytona 500
After a wild and crazy Daytona 500, 20-year old Trevor Bayne came across the stripe as the youngest winner of the Great American Race. So naturally, he takes the No. 1 spot in the rankings this week. Since Bayne isn’t running a full-time Cup schedule, he likely won’t stay there long. But he does have a week to enjoy it at least. Carl Edwards takes the number two spot, while Kurt Busch takes third. Several drivers took big hits this week, including Kevin Harvick and Greg Biffle, who each lost 11 spots. Several drivers also fell out of the rankings, [...]
In the history of sports, only a handful of events stand out as some of the best. Dale Earnhardt’s victory in the 1998 Daytona 500, the New Orleans Saints’ Super Bowl XLIV triumph, and the USA’s upset of the Soviet hockey team in the 1980 Olympics at Lake Placid come to mind. But looking back at those underdog stories, or those feel-good stories, none of them measure up to 20-year old Trevor Bayne’s win in the 53rd running of the Daytona 500 today. When you think about all the events in sports history to come up with the best, you [...]
The History, The Pavement, and The 20 year Old
… … … If you’re still reading this, this is about all I can say after seeing the 2011 Daytona 500. Speechless. Good luck writing this article right? WRONG Even someone like myself, who is definitely feeling a little torn on all the new changes NASCAR is making, will all be talking for a while about this event. I mean, there’s so much to talk about that I can almost get lost in translation, figuring out where to start! First off, the talk all week preceding the 500 was the new asphalt, the new cars and the new 2-man drafting powersquad racing. [...]
