The first Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series practice at Daytona International Speedway was rained out. Drivers were only given a 45-minute final practice. Power Rankings After Sonoma
My Power Rankings after Infineon. My rankings aren’t really based off of the latest race weekend but consistency throughout the last several races and who seems the strongest as of right now. 1. This guy has been wicked fast the last several weeks, ever since changes were made within the organization. 2. Carl Edwards has been strong all year no matter what track it has been. He’s been the most consistent, that probably explains why he’s currently 1st in the Sprint Cup point standings. 3. Kyle Busch has also been strong most of the year, he had a strong run [...]
Kurt Busch wins at Sonoma; Impressive comebacks for Jeff Gordon & Carl Edwards; Logano 6th
Front-running is a big deal at Infineon Raceway. It helps avoid all the chaos that’s following in your wake. Kurt Busch enjoyed that position immensely Sunday. Making just two pit stops in the 110-lap, 219-mile race, he scored the first road-course win of his 12-year NASCAR Sprint Cup career by holding off a late-charging Jeff Gordon in the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Speaking of chaos, Sunday’s race at Infineon had a lot of it, most notably Tony Stewart and Brian Vickers. Stewart dumped Vickers early in the race for blocking, Vickers came back onto the track and made sure he got [...]
Joey Logano wins pole at Sonoma
Logano posted a lap of 76.821 @ 93.256 MPH in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to take the top qualifying spot for Sunday’s race. It snapped Kurt Busch’s streak of three consecutive poles. It is Logano’s second career pole in the Sprint Cup Series. Hey race fans! Sorry about the hiatus once again. I’ve already had a couple of these this year. Sometimes life takes over and things like NASCAR take a backseat, but all is well. I would like to introduce to you the newest member of the Stock Car Spin family, Dustin Rossell. Dustin is a Michigan native who appreciates some of the old-school drivers(he’s a Jeff Gordon fan). Mr. Rossell was kind enough to have a discussion with me about pretty much all things NASCAR. Consider this his introduction to our family, and give him a nice, warm welcome: Dustin Rossell: I [...]
Kyle Busch Gets Record-Breaking Penalty
After his car failed post-race inspection Saturday at the Pocono Raceway, Kyle Busch had levied against him a record-setting penalty. Busch and his team were docked six points in the owners’ and drivers’ standings, marking the single lowest points penalty in NASCAR history. It was ruled that Busch’s left-front was 1/16 inches lower than tolerance. Last September, Clint Bowyer was docked 150 points after his car was deemed to be off by the roughly the same amount on the left-rear at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Under the new points system, Busch’s 6-point penalty is the equivalent to anywhere from an [...]
Bayne Comes Back, Finishes Third In NASCAR Return
The Daytona 500 winner is back and even better than he was before he left. 20-year old Trevor Bayne made his NASCAR return Saturday night, participating in his first event since being sidelined for several weeks with an unknown illness. Bayne started 31st in Saturday night’s STP 300 Nationwide Series race and finished a season-best third, coming just shy of his first career NNS win. His finish also tied his career best in the series. Bayne’s extended time away from the track seemed to do him some good. Prior to missing several races, Bayne had only notched one top 5 [...]
