Rain washes out Sprint Cup Series qualifying, Carl Edwards on pole

Qualifying for the TUMS Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway was cancelled Saturday morning as it continued to rain at the track.

NASCAR will try to hold practice later this morning if the rain can subside and the track can be dried. The starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s race was set based on owner points, putting Chase leader Carl Edwards on the pole beside his Roush-Fenway Racing teammate, Matt Kenseth. The Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers will all start in the top 12.

Most of the laps made around the track Friday were by jet driers trying to dry the surface. One truck series session was all that took place.

Rain also washed out all of the practices on Friday, where at the track the jet dries led the most laps.

NASCAR has rescheduled Cup practice for 9:15 a.m., followed by Camping World Truck Series qualifying at 10:40 a.m. with another practice is scheduled for Noon-1:25 p.m., weather permitting, followed by the truck race at 2 p.m.

The Cup race is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
