White flag next time by. Two races to go in the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Are you getting sad for the season to end? This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series takes to the 1-mile Phoenix International Raceway for the Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday afternoon.
This is the first race on the new track, which was repaved after the February race weekend. Since the repaving, Phoenix International Raceway has announced that the grandstands have been sold out. Fans wishing to take part in the Kobalt Tools 500 weekend will have to view the race from the hillside, so watch for snakes.
In February, Jeff Gordon passed Kyle Busch with eight to go to snap a 66 race winless streak. The win was Gordon’s second at the 1-mile flat track and the 83rd of his career, tying him with Cale Yarborough for fifth on the Cup Series victory list.
Carl Edwards currently leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings by three points over Tony Stewart, who has won the last two Cup races. No matter what happens at the track this weekend, we will have a brand new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion. Who do you think it will be?
