NSCS Pole Report: Matt Kenseth Captures Coors Light Pole for Kobalt Tools 500

Matt Kenseth captures the Coors Light Pole for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500 from Phoenix International Raceway. Kenseth’s lap was 137.101 miles per hour in his No. 17 Ford Mustang.

This was Kenseth’s third pole of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup season and the eighth in his career in the series.

Richard Petty Motorsports teammates AJ Allmendinger and Marcos Ambrose rounded out the top three spots.

Current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader, Carl Edwards will start ninth while the man trying to capture the lead and the trophy, Tony Stewart qualified one spot ahead of him. Qualifying was crucial for both drivers because with the new track configuration its very hard to pass. Many drivers have had a hard time this weekend finding the outside groove.

Coverage for the Kobalt Tools 500 from Phoenix International Raceway is Sunday starting with NASCAR Countdown at 2:00pm EST on ESPN. Once again, Tony Stewart is the in-race reporter. Who do you think will win? My pick for the race Carl Edwards.
