No. 55 drivers schedule for 2013 released

Just like in 2012, Brian Vickers and Mark Martin will share driving duties of the No. 55 Toyota with car owner Michael Waltrip in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Seres in 2013. And also just like in 2012, the car is slated to run the entire schedule. On Friday, Michael Waltrip Racing announced the driver schedule for the No. 55.

Waltrip will drive the car, himself, in three races, including the July race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and both races at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Meanwhile, Vickers is expected to drive the car in nine races, including two races each at Bristol (Ten.) Motor Speedway, Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. He will also be in the car for road course races at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International and in Sonoma, Calif., as well as the Kentucky Speedway event.

Martin will be behind the wheel for the bulk of the 2013 schedule. He’ll drive the car in the remaining 24 points-paying races, beginning with the season-opening Daytona 500. He’ll also drive the car in exhibition events including the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona in February and the Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.

“I love my schedule, and I love our lineup,” Martin said. “Brian has a tremendous amont of exprience and talent for such a young driver, and you saw at Talladega that Michael Waltrip is as good as anyone in a restrictor plate race.”

The trio will join MWR’s two full-time drivers — Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr. — in the organization’s driver stable next year, as those two drivers are also expected to return to the team in 2013.

As for the remainder of 2012, Vickers climbs into the car for Sunday’s Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville. After that, Martin will drive the car in the final three races of the season at Texas Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
