When testing resumed at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Thursday afternoon, most teams stuck to single-car runs, much like they did during the morning session. But Joe Gibbs Racing bucked that trend early on in the afternoon when new teammates Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin got together for some two-car drafting.
The duo remained at the top of the speed chart through most of the afternoon session until Jeff Burton posted a faster single-car lap time in the final hour of the four-hour session. In the final 15 minutes before the end of testing on Thursday, all three Joe Gibbs Racing teammates — Kenseth, Hamlin and Kyle Busch — hooked up with fellow-Toyota driver, Mark Martin to try out a four-car draft. As a result, the four wound up with the four fastest laps times for the day, with Burton laying claim to the fastest non-drafting lap
