Tommy Baldwin Racing announced on Thursday that the number of its formerly No. 36 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will don the No. 7 in 2013. The number change is to honor the father of team owner Tommy Baldwin.
“It is a very special moment today to announce the No. 7 on our Chevrolet SS,” Baldwin said, according to NASCAR.com. “The number has been in the Baldwin family for a long time, and it is going to be pretty special to carry on that legacy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.”
Tommy Baldwin Sr. raced with the No. 7NY in NASCAR’s Modified Series.
Dave Blaney returns to TBR in 2013 to drive the No. 7. He previously drove the No. 36 after joining the team during the 2010 race season. He began full-time competition with Tommy Baldwin Racing the following year.
Robby Gordon previously utilized the No. 7 on his self-owned Sprint Cup entries, but in recent years, Gordon has raced sparingly in NASCAR.
