NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Kyle Busch, plans to compete as a driver in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2013, again behind the wheel of the No. 54 Toyota. And, yes, Kyle Busch Motorsports will be a presence in the series for the second-straight year. But the No. 54 won’t be a KBM entry and Busch won’t be driving for his own team. Instead, the No. 54 moves to Joe Gibbs Racing for the upcoming season. According to a press release from Joe Gibbs Racing on Thursday, Busch will drive the JGR-entered No. 54 for most of the races on the 2013 Nationwide Series schedule, with driver(s) for other races to be announced later. The No. 54 is expected to be entered in all races this upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Kyle Busch Motorsports will field a renumbered Toyota for Parker Kligerman in the Nationwide Series while also competing full-time in the Camping World Truck Series with Joey Coulter in a KBM-entered truck.
“I’m extemely proud of what we have accomplished in a short period of time at KBM in both the Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series,” Busch said. When we started KBM, our attention was to build something for the long term, and now we are going to put a great focus on our future with Parker competing in Nationwide and Joey running trucks.”
As a Kyle Busch Motorsports entry, the No. 54 ran in all Nationwide races last year, with Busch and his brother Kurt Busch sharing driving duties. KBM claimed one Nationwide win last year, with Kurt Busch behind the wheel. Kyle Busch’s last win in the series as a driver came in 2011, driving the No. 18 for JGR. Busch is the all-time wins leader in Nationwide Series competition with 51 trips to victory lane, 40 of those coming with Joe Gibbs Racing.
Adam Stevens will be crew chief of the JGR No. 54 for the full season.
“I’m also looking forward to the opportunity to work with Adam Stevens in the Nationwide Series and put Monster Energy (sponsor of the No. 54) back in victory lane where they belong,” Busch said.
