NASCAR announced on Tuesday that Beaugard M. “Beau” Wilkes has been indefinitely suspended for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy. In its formal announcement, NASCAR cited section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) of the 2013 rule book.
Wilkes was found to be in violation of the policy on May 23. He may be allowed to return to NASCAR competition upon completion of NASCAR’s “Road to Recovery” program.
Wilkes was a tire specialist for Eddie Sharp Racing in the Camping World Truck Series.
“ESR supports all NASCAR rules and mandates zero tolerance with any violations, especially concerning NASCAR’s and ESR’s own substance abuse policy,” team owner Eddie Sharp said in a statement. “Upon learning that one of our team members violated NASCAR’s substance abuse policy, we immediately released him from the team. That said, we support his Road to Recovery efforts and wish good health for him and his family.”
