Cole Whitt is set to drive the No. 30 Toyota entry of Swan Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series throughout the remainder of 2013 season, beginning with Sunday’s race at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. Whitt is scheduled to drive the car in four other races this year at Kansas Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, and Phoenix International Raceway. He’ll replace David Stremme behind the wheel. Stremme has driven the No. 30 in every race, so far, this season, with the exception of the Daytona 500 season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February. Michael Waltrip drove the car in the Daytona 500.
“We welcome Cole Whitt to Swan Racing as the team builds for the future,” said team owner Brandon Davis, a first-year owner in the Sprint Cup Series. “Cole is a very talented driver with a bright future, and we are eager to see him compete for Swan Racing. I also want to thank David Stremme for his commitment to the team and for helping me learn so much about the sport in my first full season in NASCAR.”
According to Davis, Swan Racing is looking at a number of young drivers in preparation for 2014. Two other drivers, aside from Whitt, may get chances to drive the No. 30 before the end of the year. Those drivers will be named later.
“I am thrilled to get back to racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Swan Racing,” Whitt said. “I told Mr. Davis that I will give him all I have to make this team successful.”
