Phoenix Racing announced on Tuesday that veteran crew chief Jimmy Elledge will be the interim crew chief for the No. 51 NASCAR Sprint Cup team for the rest of the 2013 Sprint Cup Series season (six races). He’ll be replacing Nick Harrison, who left Phoenix Racing to work as crew chief for Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 team in the Nationwide Series.
“I want to thank Nick for all his hard work at Phoenix Racing,” car owner Harry Scott Jr. said. “Nick has a great opportunity, and I know that he will be very successful.”
Elledge taking over crew chiefing duties with the No. 51 team reunites him with driver Justin Allgaier for two of the remaining six races. Allgaier is slated to drive the No. 51 in two remaining races this year. Elledge was Allgaier’s crew chief on the No. 31 Nationwide Series team in 2011 and 2012. Together, they won two Nationwide races during that time period.
“I am looking forward to having Jimmy on the box making the calls the rest of the year,” Allgaier said. “He’s a familiar voice, and we’ve had success working together.”
