NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team BK Racing will put a couple of series rookies behind the wheels of its two Cup Toyota entries in the upcoming 2014 races season, according to an announcement from BK Racing on Monday. Bowman will drive the No. 23 (formerly the No. 93), and Truex will drive the No. 83. Both drivers will contend for Rookie of the Year honors. The No. 93 will go on a car that will run on a part-time basis. Both Truex and Bowman have already participated in preseason tests for the team.
Bowman has not yet made a Sprint Cup start. He competed full-time in the Nationwide Series last year, posting two top-fives and six top-10 finishes in 32 races.
“This is an extemely good opportunity for me,” Bowman said. “Ron (Devine) and I first started talking about the possibilities months ago. I’m happy to be a part of this organization.”
Dave Winston will be Bowman’s crew chief on the No. 23 team.
Truex has three-races of Sprint Cup experience under his belt with his series debut coming at Bristol (Ten.) Motor Speedway in August 2012. He’s a two-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion and has raced part-time in the Nationwide Series. Over the course of three years, Truex has competed in 35 Nationwide races, posting results that include two top-fives and nine top-10s.
“Driving in the Sprint Cup Series has been a goal since I started racing, and to start this next chapter with BK Racing makes it extra special,” Truex said. “I am very excited for this opportunity.”
Dale Ferguson will be Truex’s crew chief.
