NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Eric McClure is reuniting with Front Row Motorsports for his second Sprint Cup race of the season. He’ll drive the No. 35 Ford for FRM Sunday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, this is if he can qualify his way in on Saturday. If he makes the race, he’ll be a teammate to Front Rows’ regular drivers, David Ragan and David Gilliland. Ragan won last year’s race at Talladega.
“I am very appreciative of the opportunity (FRM owner) Bob (Jenkins) and Front Row Motorsports have given me to drive the No. 35 at Talladega,” McClure said. “After having a fast car at Daytona, the disappointment of missing that race still lingers a bit for me. I am optimistic we can make the show at Talladega and have the chance to compete for a great finish.
McClure attempted to qualify the No. 35 for the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February, but failed to make the race. His regular gig is driver of the No. 14 entry for TriStart Motorsports in the Nationwide Series. His most recent Sprint Cup Series race came in 2006 at Talladega. He finished 31st in that race. In all, McClure has competed in three races at the Sprint Cup level.
McClure has made 234 starts in the Nationwide Series, with a best finish of eighth coming at Daytona in 2013.
