Ice Picks - Talledega

What a great race ending last weekend, and now to the high banks of Talledega Superspeedway for 499 miles to keep you on the edge of your seat.

This is a wild card race and I’m hoping no one makes a bone head move to wipe out most of the field, as the big one is always looming around the corners.

Anyone can win this race. Witness last year’s spring race where David Ragan teamed up with his teammate David Gilliland, who sliced and diced like a ginzu knife to overtake Carl Edwards who was a sitting duck for the checkers, and if you throw in the “The big One,” the Las Vegas odds makers will be salivating, as all bets are off.

Winning from the pole is a rarity at Talledega. Jeff Gordon is the only active driver who has won from the pole in 2007 and has the most laps lead with 843 laps.

History says the second starting spot produces the most wins in all Talledega races with 20 wins, and the top ten starting spots produce the most winners in 69%, but Jeff Gordon is the only active driver to win as deep as the 36 starting spot at the turn of the millennium.

Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with the most wins with 38 followed by ford with 21 wins.

Goodyear is using the same compound for both Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series tire, Left-side — D-4596; Right-side — D-4600.

Here are my Ice Pick’s for Talledega:

A List

Jeff Gordon- is darn good at Dega with the most laps lead by anyone.

Kevin Harvick- will team up with Tony Stewart or vice versa.

Dale Earnhardt Jr- the master of the draft.

B List

Tony Stewart- gets big time help from his teammates.

Ryan Newman- will have help to get to the front.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr- might lead the Fords to the promise land in victory lane.

David Ragan- is solid at Dega.

C List

Trevor Bayne- has been getting stronger each race.

Weather looks very good for Sunday’s race — mostly sunny in the low 80’s. Don’t forget to check out my Wednesday Power Rankings on Fantasy Insider. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Good Luck!
