Clint Bowyer extends relationship with MWR

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer, his crew chief Brian Pattie and primary sponsor 5-hour Energy have all signed multi-year contract extensions with Michael Waltrip Racing, according to an announcement from the race team earlier this week. The exact length of the extentions were not mentioned in the announcement.

“This is big news for all of us,” Bowyer said. “It creates great stability and excitement about what the next few years can bring. MWR is my racing home and continuing this relationship with 5-hour Energy was a high priority. It’s time to put the paperwork in a drawer and focus on winning.”

Bowyer, Pattie, and 5-hour Energy all joined Michael Waltrip Racing to work together in 2012. Bowyer came to MWR from Richard Childress Racing, where he had spent his entire Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series career, to that point. Pattie came to MWR from Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, which has since become Chip Ganassi Racing.

Bowyer is an eight-time winner at the Sprint Cup level, with three of those wins coming since joining Michael Waltrip Racing. All three of those MWR wins came in 2012, his first year with the team. He has made the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship post season in both of his full seasons with Michael Waltrip Racing, so far. Ten races into the 2014 season, Bowyer has one top-five and three top-10 finish and sits 18th in the points standings.

“Since the first day 5-hour Energy, Clint and Brian showed up at MWR, we have been a contender for wins and championships,” Michael Waltrip Racing co-owner Michael Waltrip said. “I am so thankful that we get to continue and add to what we have built. I am most happy for the employees of MWR who are the foundation of everything we do.”

As a result of the sponsorship agreement with 5-hour Energy, the energy shot company will be primary sponsor of Bowyer’s No. 15 Toyota for 24 Sprint Cup races each year of the contract.
