NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team Circle Sport has added Alex Kennedy to its driver stable, and as a result, Kennedy is slated to make his first Sprint Cup Series start of 2014 on Sunday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. He’ll drive Circle Sport’s No. 33 Chevrolet.
“I’m really excited about driving the No. 33 Chevy SS for Circle Sport Racing, and I’m proud to kick off this relationship with The Dream Factory paint scheme at Pocono,” Kennedy said. “We had a successful two-day test at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) last week, where I was able to work with the crew, and I’m looking forward to making the most of this opportunity as I take the next big step in my NASCAR career.”
Kennedy is also expected to drive the No. 33 in Sprint Cup road course races at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway on June 22 and at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on Aug. 10. He’ll also compete in other select races throughout the 2014 season.
Kennedy recently drove a Hillman Racing Sprint Cup car in a test at Virginia International Raceway, a road course on which the Sprint Cup Series does not compete but several teams test in preparation for road courses that are on the schedule.
Kennedy has a career total of 19 starts across the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. He has two top-20 road course finishes at the national level in NASCAR, both coming in the Nationwide Series at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal and Watkins Glen.
