The lure of the Sprint Cup NASCAR Series is drawing in the son of a noted F1 racer. Eddie Cheever III is currently racing in the NASCAR Whelen EuroSeries in the #51 car. The NASCAR Whelen EuroSeries has a different set up and feel than that of our homegrown NASCAR Series.
Cheever III has actually done so well in this two division 80 driver series that he has the points lead in the Elite 1 division. Now he has set his sights on this side of the pond and the kind of NASCAR Racing that is only found here in the states.
Most fathers would be excited that a child was following in his career choices, even if those choices were not exactly the same ones. It also helps to have the experience of a father who understands the life and job of a race car driver. There may be several key differences between NASCAR and F1 racing but I imagine that there are also a whole bunch of similarities as well.
Either way the Senior Cheever should certainly be proud. Not only is this young man following in the racing footsteps of his dad, he is also doing a mighty swell job of it.
Eddie Cheever Jr. became a well known figure for his F1 Racing career throughout the 1980s. He won as both the car owner and driver during the 1998 Indianapolis 500.
It will certainly be interesting to watch Eddie Cheever III take on the rest of the Whelen EuroSeries drivers while racing throughout Italy, Spain, England, France and Germany for the remainder of the season.
