NASCAR announced on Wednesday that its annual Preseason Thunder fan event in Daytona Beach, Fla., will be a weel later than usual in 2015. The 2015 installment of the event is scheduled for Jan. 15 and 16.
“A later starting date for January testing will be more convenient for both teams and fans,” DIS President Joie Chitwood III said. “Both testing sessions are important opportunities for teams as they prepare for their season-opening events. It’s also an exciting time for fans as they get geared up for the start of the new season.”
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will test at Daytona International Speedway both those days, and there will be a Preseason Thunder Fan Fest on Jan. 15. Tickets for the Fan Fest will be available later this year, as will a specific schedule of events, including driver autograph and question and answer sessions.
“Each year, Preseason Thunder gives fans a sneak peek into the upcoming season, and specifically, NASCAR’s crown jewel, the Daytona 500,” NASCAR Vice President of Competition and Racing Development Robin Pemberton said. “In 2015, the date will change. The anticipation, and the thrill of cars returning to the race track, will not.”
The Daytona 500, the first points-paying race of the 2015 Sprint Cup Series season, is scheduled for February 22.
