Martin Truex Jr., driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, will miss practice and qualifying on Friday for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich., according to a press release issued Wednesday afternoon by Furniture Row Racing. Camping World Truck Series driver Matt Crafton will sub for Truex on Friday. Truex is expected to arrive at the track on Saturday and will race on Sunday.
Truex is taking the time off to be with longtime girlfriend Sherry Pollex, who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
“Everyone at Furniture Row Racing extends their thoughts and prayers to Sherry during her treatment and recovery period,” Furniture Row Racing General Manager Joe Garone said. “She is a devoted supporter of our race team, and we can’t wait for her return to the track.”
According to the release, Truex and Pollex have requested that the family’s privacy be respected during Pollex’s treatment and recovery. The release also mentioned Pollex’s work in fighting pediatric cancer. More information about that may be obtained at martintruexjrfoundation.org.
