“We have a long-term vision for Swan Racing and the addition of Tony Jr. is another step in that process,” team owner Brandon Davis said. “Tony brings a world of experience to Swan Racing and will be part of our long-term success.”

Eury was previously with Nationwide Series team, JR Motorsports, but was released from that organization late in the 2013 race season. He has experience as a crew chief at both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup levels and has contributed to 19 Cup wins with drivers including Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“Tony Jr. has pretty much done it all from tire changer to crew chief,” Swan Racing Competition Director Steve Hmiel said. “His experience and knowledge will be pivotal to the success of Swan Racing.”

The formation of Swan Racing was announced about a week ago, and the organization will make its competition debut in February at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Team owner Davis purchased the assets of the former Inception Motorsports, for which Stremme was a driver and part-owner in 2012.

“The team has transformed itself virtually overnight,” Stremme said. “It’s hard to believe just how different this team is in such a short period of time.”

“I am confident that we are putting together the personnel to one day produce a championship contender,” Davis said.

Stremme isn’t the only NASCAR veteran on Swan Racing’s payroll. Steve Hmiel, a 35-plus-year-veteran in the sport has been hired on to serve as Director of Competition. Hmiel has held such roles as crew chief, car chief and competition director at the Sprint Cup level for teams including Roush Fenway Racing and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. Early in his career, Hmiel also worked for Hall of Fame driver Richard Petty.

“Steve is among the best and brightest technical experts in the NASCAR garage area,” Davis said. His experience and expertise will be a crucial part in Swan Racing’s success.”

The new team is based in Mooresville, N.C., and has Davis’ Swan Energy Inc. as primary sponsor. Engines under the hood are expected to come from Triad Racing Technologies.

According to Davis, he was inspired by the recent success of relatively new teams in the sport.

“I am encouraged by the success of teams like Michael Waltrip Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing in recent years,” Davis said. “It says a lot about the competitiveness of the sport and the opportunity small teams have to succeed.”

Michael Waltrip Racing put both its full-time drivers, Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr., in the Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2012. Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner and driver Tony Stewart claimed his third Sprint Cup in 2011.
