]]> ESPN is set to release the first music issue of its ESPN the Magazine. For its creation, 14 athletes participated in photo shoots to recreate iconic album covers. Five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson was among the athletes participating in the project. NASCAR’s Gen-6 goes on tour - Stock Car Spin - Stock Car Spin - A NASCAR Blog

]]> NASCAR is, apparently, anxious to show off its new Gen-6 Sprint Cup Series car to the country. The sanctioning body recently announced details of its NASCAR Gen-6 Road to Daytona Fueled by Sunoco tour, set to begin on Tuesday. The event is being described as a multi-city media blitz which will also give fans an opportunity to see the new car up close.

The tour begins in Detroit on Tuesday and will make stops in Bristol, Con.; New York; and Jacksonville, Fla., along with other stops along the way before arriving at Daytona Beach, Fla., on Feb. 13 to kick off Daytona International Speedway’s Speedweeks. Drivers will be accompanying various cars on the tour at some of the media stops.

“Manufacturers, teams and drivers have praised the Gen-6 car in terms of both performance and styling,” NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Steve Phelps said. All of us are eager to share their enthusiasm with media and fans across the country as we prepare to open the 2013 season with the Sprint Unlimited and the Daytona 500.”

Here are some of the specific stops/events highlighted in a press release sent out by NASCAR on Monday:

Feb. 5 — NASCAR President Mike Helton, Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton, Vice President of Brand, Consumer, Series Marketing Kim Brink; US Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports for Chevrolet Jim Campbell; Ford Racing Director Jamie Allison; and Senior Vice President of Toyota Racing Development David Wilson will participate in a breakfast panel session presented by Autoweek at the College for Creative Studies.

Feb. 6 — Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski and his No. 2 Penske Racing Ford will visit ESPN in Bristol, Con., and make appearances on several of the network’s shows that day.

Feb. 7 — Team owner and part-time driver Michael Waltrip will accompany the No. 15 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota (driven by Clint Bowyer) to FOX Plaza in Manhattan.

Feb. 8 — Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet will visit the set of FOX News’ “America’s Newsroom,” along with other stops in NYC.

Feb. 13 — Cars will arrive in Daytona after a stop in Jacksonville, Fla. They’ll be on display throughout NASCAR Media Day at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 14.

According to the press release the cars will be on display for fans at locations near the aforementioned stops, as well as a few other places along the way.
