Several NASCAR drivers set to participate in Rolex 24 at Daytona - Stock Car Spin - Stock Car Spin - A NASCAR Blog

]]> The NASCAR portion of Daytona (Fla.) International Speedweeks may not get underway until mid-February, but some NASCAR stars will be racing at Daytona as early as Saturday, as they participate in the Rolex 24 at Daytona Grand-Am Road Racing Series event that will begin on Saturday and end on Sunday.

“I got talked into the Rolex deal,” Clint Bowyer said. “What a deal.”

Below, is a list of NASCAR drivers (Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck series) expected to participate in the 24-hour event:

DP Class
No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates — Juan Montoya
No. 02 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates — Jamie McMurray
No. 5 Action Express Racing — Nelson Piquet Jr.
No. 60 Michael Shank Racing — A.J. Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose

GT Class
No. 55 AF-Waltrip — Michael Waltrip, Clint Bowyer
No. 56 AF-Waltrip — Michael Waltrip, Clint Bowyer

The race is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Extensive television coverage will be provided by SPEED Channel.

]]> On Wednesday a merger was announced between the American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am, owned by NASCAR. Although the merger has already been announced, it won’t take place until 2014. The two series will continue to race separately in 2013. The name of the new series created by the 2014 merger has not yet been announced.
