All he does is win.

Tony Stewart took the checkered flag in the Indy Kartying Classic on Sunday afternoon at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The race was a friendly match between the stars of NASCAR and IndyCar.

“We had a slow start to the day, but we got better as the day went on and the track got better for us,” Stewart said. “Austin (Dillon) had some trouble with his brother (Ty Dillon) and someone else and got choked down and we got a big run. The inside didn’t look so good and I thought the outside looked good, but then it didn’t look good at all. I thought I was going to go down the tunnel, out the parking lot and downtown. It was a little bit sketchy, but we had a fast kart at the end.”

IndyCar driver Alex Tagliani was second and John Andretti was third. Stewart made the race winning pass on Austin Dillion midway through the 30-lap event.

Stewart, who was teamed up with Alex Tagliani on Team Birel, was worried he would be a weak link for the team because of his weight. Many of the members of the IndyCar team had raced in karts for practice and sport, Stewart had really not be in a Kart for a long time. Plus, he is definitely on the heavier side compared to the competitors. Weight is definitely a disadvantage as the karts are very light and racing with every pound counts, but this was not the case.

The Indy Karting Class was the final event for the International Motorsports Industry Show in the city and featured 12 drivers, with six from the NASCAR community and six from IndyCar. The six NASCAR participants were A.J. Allmendinger, John Andretti, Austin Dillon, Ty Dillon, Scott Speed, and Tony Stewart. The six IndyCar drivers were Ed Carpenter, Jay Howard, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Josepf Newgarden, Tomas Scheckter, and Alex Tagliani.

After the race, Alex Taglini said “It was nice to share the track with the NASCAR guys and all the guys from INDYCAR too. I really enjoyed the day and it was a fun event. It was fun to race with Tony (Stewart). I’ve never run on the same track with him and today we were teammates with Birel ”

NASCAR definitely has the bragging rights for the next year. Hopefully this will become an annual event for the fans.

Kurt Busch went into his drag racing debut expected a heavy dose of “humble pie”.

He got it.

Busch was eliminated in the first round of Sunday’s Gatornationals by Erica Enders. Busch, who qualified No. 12 overall in the Pro Stock series, was defeated by just half a car length by Enders, the No. 5 qualifier.

Just making the field was quite an accomplishment for the 2004 NASCAR Cup champ. In doing that, he became just the third NASCAR driver ever to qualify for an NHRA-sanctioned event, joining John Andretti and Richard Petty.

Busch may run again in July at St. Louis; another race that coincides with a Sprint Cup Series off-weekend. Still anybody who was hoping Busch would light the drag racing world on fire in his debut race was sincerely disappointed.

But that just goes to show you that, like NASCAR drivers, the guys(and girls) who drive straight-liners are pretty darn good at what they do as well.

And hey, now everybody knows that drag racing isn’t guys running really fast while wearing women’s clothes.
