Brad Keselowski became the first-ever NASCAR Nationwide Series winner at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday when he took the checkered flag in the Indy 250. His Penske Racing teammate, Sam Hornish Jr., finished second to give the organization a one-two finish.

“Congratulations to everyone at Penske Racing — a one-two finish,” Keselowski’s crew chief Jeremy Bullins said after the race.

The win was also a milestone victory for car owner Roger Penske.

“This is the 100th win for Roger in NASCAR,” Keselowski said in victory lane.

Keselowski and the Penske Racing organization weren’t the only winners on Saturday. After a technicality put Michael Annett, not Kenny Wallace, into the four-driver Dash 4 Cash field at IMS, Annett finished sixth to be the highest among the four drivers going after the Indy bonus and to claim the $100,000 payout.

“We’re not kissing the bricks, but we got a big cardboard check to lay our lips on,” Annett said, referencing the Indy tradition of the race winner kissing the yard of bricks at the track’s start/finish line.

Kyle Busch dominated the first half of the race after taking the lead from pole sitter Kasey Kahne on lap one. He lost his lead during a competition caution on lap 15 and restarted fourth after his No. 54 crew made sure they got his car completely full of fuel.

By lap 28, though, Busch made his way back to the front to take the lead from Keselowski. Busch continued to dominate the race, but after taking four tires on a pit stop during a debris caution with 37 laps to go in the 100-lap race when others took only two, Busch restarted in the ninth spot.

Meanwhile, Hornish assumed the lead and was joined by Keselowski in second soon after the restart. Keselowski took the top spot away from his Penske teammate with 29 laps to go. By the time the next caution came out with 26 laps to go, Busch had worked his way back up to fourth, but he spun on the restart that followed, taking himself out of contention for the race win.

Keselowski restarted with the lead, with Elliott Sadler alongside in second. Sadler got out in front of Keselowski when the race went back to green but was black flagged by NASCAR for jumping the restart.

Sadler and his No. 2 team contended that Keselowski spun his tires and Sadler had gotten pushed by Austin Dillon, but it didn’t help. The black flag stood. Sadler headed down pit road to serve his pass-through penalty and wound up finishing the race 15th.

Ty Dillon finished third in his second-career series start, Denny Hamlin was fourth and Austin Dillon rounded out the top-five.

With their finishes in Indianapolis, the four drivers who’ll race for the Dash 4 Cash bonus next weekend at Iowa Speedway will be Annett, Hornish, Austin Dillon and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who finished ninth.

Every Monday, Stock Car Spin runs a feature called Stock Car Shoutouts, which gives props to drivers who you may not hear much about and who had a good run the previous week. This week is slightly different, as we include in this week’s edition a winner from the previous week, and an unexpected guest.

So without further ado, Stock Car Spin would like to give a Shoutout to:

Timothy Peters: He won Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville. And while you may not have heard of Peters until this year, or perhaps even this week, the road to his first win in a premier NASCAR series was not an easy one. To make a long story short, Peters drove for Bobby Hamilton Racing in the Truck series in 2005-06 as a Dodge development driver. It didn’t work out. In 2007, he drove a few Nationwide races for Richard Childress Racing. Again, unsuccessfully. In 2008, he virtually disappeared off the NASCAR radar. But in 2009, Peters snached a Truck ride with Premier Racing, and drove for about the first half of the season. He then joined Red Horse Racing, his current team, and won his first race in his 64th career start. He has kept himself in the top 10 in driver points, currently sitting in 7th. His win on Saturday was also the team’s first win since Martinsville in 2006.

Michael Annett: Annett’s story isn’t quite as long, but is no less interesting. Annett spent his teenage years playing hockey. He spent some time in the United States Hockey League playing for the Waterloo Black Hawks. But his lifelong dream had been to race. And at age 18, he finally tested a race car. 2 years later, in 2007, Annett went to Victory Lane in the lone ARCA race at Talladega. He raced in one Nationwide race a year ago, and has been racing full-time in the series as a rookie for Germain Racing this year. Overshadowed by fellow rookies, Justin Allgaier and Brendan Gaughan, Annett has had a solid season, accumulating 4 top 10 finishes. He was on his way to a career best finish Saturday at Memphis before a caution came out for a piece of paper. Trying some strategy, Annett’s crew chief left him on the race track, and he inherited the lead. But with just inside 10 laps to go, it was taken away by eventual winner, Brad Keselowski. Annett, after a spin, would finish 16th. But he currently sits 10th in the points, the highest he’s been in his brief career.

Gopher, Digger the: He’s annoying. Very annoying. Very annoying. NASCAR on Fox’s brainchild, this pesky rodent has become Darrell Waltrip’s favorite little “driver”, leaving his other buddies, Junebug and Wild Thing, playing second fiddle. Yes, Digger is more annoying than a root canal gone bad. Alright, almost as annoying. But one thing you have never seen Digger do(and likely won’t, seeing as he is the brainbrother of Fox News) is mock prayer. That’s more than what a certain Big Ten plus one’s university mascot can say. And that, my friends, deserves a Shoutout. I don’t care if you are an annoying, animated rodent.
