]]> NASCAR announced recently that on Sept. 11, 2012, Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series teams were issued a technical bulletin regarding a “safety enhancement” for 2013, to take effect at the start of next year.

According to the bulletin, there will be changes to roll cages in the cars competing in both series.

“The cars in both series will feature an additional forward roof bar and a center roof support bar that will intersect near the front center of the roll cage,” the bulletin read.

According to NASCAR, these new features have been tested extensively at the sanctioning body’s Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C. The aim of the additional forward roof bar and center roof support bar is to strengthen the roll cage that protects drivers in the cockpits of their race cars.
