One driver is off the free-agent market.

It was announced today that Greg Biffle and Roush-Fenway Racing have agreed to a three-year contact extension. Biffle and sponsor 3M, which also signed a three-year extension with the driver and team, had contacts that were set to expire at the end of the 2011 season. Now both will be with RFR through at least 2014.

Biffle and Carl Edwards were the only remaining RFR drivers who were potential free agents after this season. With Biffle’s contract extension, Edwards is the only driver who has yet to re-sign with RFR. Matt Kenseth is signed through 2012 and David Ragan is signed through 2013.

Speculation has surrounded the RFR drivers this season, as the team was expected by some to cut one of its drivers to make way for Trevor Bayne after this season. Bayne said earlier this week that he’s happy with his current Wood Brothers team, and that he’d like to stay there next year if he can.

That’s good news for RFR, considering they would have to cut Edwards if they wanted to get Bayne in their fourth car with Biffle signing the extension.

The important thing right now, of course, is that Greg Biffle fans know where their driver will be in 2012. And RFR’s 2012 plans are now three-fourths of the way complete.

The boys of NASCAR went out West for Chase race #4 this week. Who survived the madness of Fontana and whose Chase hopes went up in smoke? We’ve got you covered!

Hot: Tony Stewart. Blown engines were a big story at Fontana, but it was a different Smoke that stole the headlines. With his win on Sunday, Stewart revived his Chase hopes. Now can he catch J.J.?

Not: Roush-Fenway Racing. What went right for the Roush cars at Fontana? Absolutely nothing. All three RFR Chasers had mechanical problems, and the lone non-Chaser for Roush made a new best friend…or not. I don’t want to say that Fontana completely ruined Roush’s championship chances, but I think you pretty much get the picture.

Hot: Clint Bowyer. Bowyer probably won’t win the championship(though stranger things have happened), but Clint’s second-place run is certainly a shot in the arm for this team. And those 5 points he stole away from Jimmie Johnson at the end may benefit his teammate come Homestead.

Not: Kurt Busch. Here’s David Ragan’s new best friend. Of course, I kid. But the damage Kurt’s late crash did to his title aspirations is serious. Now it appears the elder Busch needs some help.

Hot: Jimmie Johnson. Each week, J.J. regresses one position. Two weeks ago he won, last week he finished second, and this week he finished third. He better be careful, because at this rate…oh who am I kidding, he’d still win the title.

Not: Kyle Busch. The younger Busch just burned up his second mulligan with a blown engine at Fontana. The rest of the field better watch out though, because Kyle may be getting ready to go into desperation mode.

Hot: Kasey Kahne. Good to see the Bud man run well again. I beat up on Kasey a bet last week, but I’ll give him props this week. The guy still has some fight left in him this season.

Not: Jeff Burton. I’m having a difficult time figuring Burton out. He can’t seem to decide how he wants to finish week-in and week-out. He’s inconsistent; kind of like a politician. I guess that’s why they call him The Mayor.

Hot: David Reutimann. Fact: Last week, Reutimann got near Kyle Busch and finished outside the top 30. This week, Reuti didn’t go near Kyle Busch and finished tenth. I’m just sayin’.

Not: Marcos Ambrose. Marcos has been having a rough go of things here lately. And while his JTG Daugherty ride continued to have problems at Fontana, his future ride finished fourth. If I were Ambrose, I’d be ready for 2010 to be over.
