“Swan Racing is here to compete and to build a championship contender,” Swan Racing owner Brandon Davis said. “This one-race partnership with Michael puts a two-time champion behind the wheel and the No. 30 in the mix at the Daytona 500.”

Although the move to put Waltrip in the car leaves Stremme without a ride for Daytona, the team’s regular driver is not harboring any ill-will.

“This is a great move for Swan Racing,” Stremme said. “Michael and I have been friends for a long time. We got to talking last year, and from my perspective, I thought this would help to further our relationship with Toyota and be a good building block for Swan Racing.”

While the face behind the wheel will be different, the same man will be atop the pit box as crew chief — Tony Eury Jr. This will make for a reunion for crew chief and driver, and Eury was Waltrip’s crew chief in 2005 when they were both with the now-defunct Dale Earnhardt Inc.

“Michael is a familiar face for a lot of us here at Swan Racing,” Eury said. “We know each other’s habits, wants and needs on the track. We’re going to Daytona to compete and, hopefully, we’ll make a mark for Swan Racing.”

“We have a long-term vision for Swan Racing and the addition of Tony Jr. is another step in that process,” team owner Brandon Davis said. “Tony brings a world of experience to Swan Racing and will be part of our long-term success.”

Eury was previously with Nationwide Series team, JR Motorsports, but was released from that organization late in the 2013 race season. He has experience as a crew chief at both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup levels and has contributed to 19 Cup wins with drivers including Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“Tony Jr. has pretty much done it all from tire changer to crew chief,” Swan Racing Competition Director Steve Hmiel said. “His experience and knowledge will be pivotal to the success of Swan Racing.”

The formation of Swan Racing was announced about a week ago, and the organization will make its competition debut in February at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Team owner Davis purchased the assets of the former Inception Motorsports, for which Stremme was a driver and part-owner in 2012.

“The team has transformed itself virtually overnight,” Stremme said. “It’s hard to believe just how different this team is in such a short period of time.”
