Jeb Burton may be the son of Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton, but he considers himself to be “just a country boy from South Boston living a dream.” That was how he described himself at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night. That was part of a statement he made in victory lane that night, celebrating his first-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win after taking the checkered flag in the WinStar World Casino 400.

“This is freaking awesome,” Burton also said.

It was the first win of the year for Turner Scott Motorsports.

“Everybody at Turner Scott Motorsports works hard day in and day out,” crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. said. “It’s good to get back to victory lane where we belong.”

Burton held off Ty Dillon in the closing laps of the 167-lap race to claim win number one. Dillon was gaining ground on Burton, but ran out of time before the checkers waved. Dillon, instead, had to settle for second.

“One more lap,” Dillon said. “One more turn was all I needed.

Dillon and his Richard Childress Racing teammate, Brendan Gaughan — a guy who claimed four-straight Truck Series wins at TMS about a decade ago — combined to dominate the race.

“I just wanted that one (win) tonight,” Dillon said. “We worked so hard for it, led so many laps.”

Dillon took the lead on lap 12 and led until he was passed by Gaughan on lap 79. Gaughan then began to pull away and had a lead of more than three seconds by the time the field began cycling through green-flag pit stops just before lap 100.

After the cycle, Gaughan was back in the lead, but this time, he didn’t pull away from teammate Dillon. With 34 laps to go, Dillon retook the lead. Dillon then got off pit road first during a caution with 29 laps to go to hold on to the top spot, while Gaughan lost a couple of spots in the pits and restarted fourth.

Burton took the lead from Dillon on the restart that followed, and then, Crafton got by Dillon for second. Dillon retook second from Crafton a few laps later and closed on Burton. Burton, though, was able to hold Dillon off just long enough for the win.

German Quiroga also got by Crafton inthe final laps to finish third. Crafton was fourth, and Gaughan rounded out the top-five.
