The number change is to honor the father of team owner Tommy Baldwin.

“It is a very special moment today to announce the No. 7 on our Chevrolet SS,” Baldwin said, according to NASCAR.com. “The number has been in the Baldwin family for a long time, and it is going to be pretty special to carry on that legacy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.”

Tommy Baldwin Sr. raced with the No. 7NY in NASCAR’s Modified Series.

Dave Blaney returns to TBR in 2013 to drive the No. 7. He previously drove the No. 36 after joining the team during the 2010 race season. He began full-time competition with Tommy Baldwin Racing the following year.

Robby Gordon previously utilized the No. 7 on his self-owned Sprint Cup entries, but in recent years, Gordon has raced sparingly in NASCAR.

When the No. 36 Chevrolet of Tommy Baldwin Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series hits the track at Dover International Speedway next weekend, the regular driver of the car, Dave Blaney, won’t be behind the wheel. Instead, J.J. Yeley is expected to drive the car in the AAA 400 on Sept. 29.

“We love working with J.J.,” car owner Tommy Baldwin said. “He is a good driver, and we are looking forward to what we can do together at Dover.

Yeley has a total of 11 Sprint Cup starts at Dover, with a best finish of 24th in 2008. That’s two positions better than the best finish for the No. 36 car at the track. Blaney drove the car to a 26th-place finish at Dpver in 2011.

After starting 2012 with new team, Robinson-Blakeney Racing, to drive a No. 49 Toyota, he made the move to Max Q Motorsports to drive the No. 37, a team that just happens to have a technical alliance with Tommy Baldwin Racing.
