“We have a long-term vision for Swan Racing and the addition of Tony Jr. is another step in that process,” team owner Brandon Davis said. “Tony brings a world of experience to Swan Racing and will be part of our long-term success.”

Eury was previously with Nationwide Series team, JR Motorsports, but was released from that organization late in the 2013 race season. He has experience as a crew chief at both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup levels and has contributed to 19 Cup wins with drivers including Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“Tony Jr. has pretty much done it all from tire changer to crew chief,” Swan Racing Competition Director Steve Hmiel said. “His experience and knowledge will be pivotal to the success of Swan Racing.”

The formation of Swan Racing was announced about a week ago, and the organization will make its competition debut in February at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Team owner Davis purchased the assets of the former Inception Motorsports, for which Stremme was a driver and part-owner in 2012.

“The team has transformed itself virtually overnight,” Stremme said. “It’s hard to believe just how different this team is in such a short period of time.”

In a printed statement for JR Motorsports, Earnhardt Jr. said, “”Unfortunately Tony Jr. is no longer with the company. I had hoped he would be here for a long time, but as we’ve discussed the direction of JR Motorsports moving forward, it was clear our differences in ideas were too vast to overcome. I love him like a brother, and you’ll never hear me say a bad thing about him. I know he’ll have much success in anything he does going forward. As for our No. 7 team, no decision has been made on who will crew chief that team this weekend at Kentucky Speedway. We will discuss our options and make a decision very soon.”

Eury Jr. is part of the JR Motorsports ownership group that also includes Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt-Miller and Rick Hendrick. According to a report from FOX Sports, Eury Jr. is, at least for now, still part of the organization’s ownership but that talks were ongoing regarding his ownership position.

Veteran crew chief Ryan Pemberton, who was recently hired by JRM to replace Eury Sr. as Director of Competition, will fill-in as Patrick’s crew chief until a permanent replacement for Eury Jr. is found.

Eury Jr. started his NASCAR career at Dale Earnhardt Inc., and remained there until moving to Hendrick Motorsports with Earnhardt Jr. in 2007. He joined JR Motorsports in 2009. Eury Jr. told FOX Sports that there was no ill-will resulting from the decision.
